As the centre for half of the world’s crude oil and over a third of its natural gas reserves, the MEA region has long been a highly significant global producer and exporter of energy. With a surge in demand for electricity, driven by population growth and economic development, the focus has now shifted to using the region’s abundance of natural resources to build a burgeoning renewable energy sector.

Many governments have set out ambitious clean energy targets and placed energy at the heart of their economic agendas, recognising the role which renewables deployment and bolstered energy security will also play in broader socio-economic development. Large-scale projects in solar, wind and hydropower are being delivered at pace, as well as a growing market for the adoption of small and medium-scale schemes such as rooftop solar.
